
MARION KUHLMANN HAMMETT
Marion Katherine Kuhlmann Hammett, 84, of Lampasas, died Wednesday Aug. 19, 2015.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lampasas, with interment following at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Sneed Funeral Chapel of Lampasas where visitation was held Friday evening, Aug. 21.
Mrs. Hammett was born July 29, 1931, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Elgin and Erna Kuhlmann. She married William Lee (Bill) Hammett on June 22, 1957, in Fredericksburg. He preceded her in death.
A 1950 graduate of St. Mary’s High School, Mrs. Hammett received her teaching degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio.
She taught for 44 years, 28 of those in the Lampasas Independent School District.
She began her coaching career in basketball in George West where her teams made the state tournament three consecutive years and in 1957 she was the first woman to be selected to coach the girls’ high school all-star game.
Mrs. Hammett moved to Lampasas in 1971 where she taught fifth grade and was involved in numerous community organizations, including the Lampasas Retired Teachers, 36 Club, Red Hatters and was a past president of the Pierian Club.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Kerry Hammett of Lampasas.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Memorials may be given to the Library Foundation of Lampasas.
