Gilberto Barrera

Gilberto Barrera, 86, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Mexico, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, in a San Antonio hospital.

A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with Deacon Francisco De La Torre officiating.

Interment of the cremains will be held at a later date in Mexico.

Visitation with the family was held prior to the memorial service.

Barrera was born Jan. 26, 1929, in Mexico, the son of Rafael Barrera and Paula Gomez Barrera. He married Maria Mendoza who preceded him in death.

He is survived by five sons, two daughters and spouses,  including Hilda Bopp and Pedro Landa, Socorro and Gabriel Galindo, Eleno and Carollyn Barrera and Salome Barrera, all of Fredericksburg; Sergio and Julieta Barrera and German and Emma Barrera, all of Mexico, and Rafael and Esmeralda Barrera, of Denver City, Texas.

Survivors also include 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bertha and Enoc Terrazas, Beatriz and Francisco Gomez and Cruz and Felipe Gallegos, all of Mexico.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
