LESTER A. GROSENBACHER

Lester A. Grosenbacher, 88, of Comfort, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab Center.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m. at Schaetter Funeral Home in Comfort with the Rev. Keith Shelley officiating.

Interment followed in the Comfort Cemetery.

Visitation was held Thursday evening, Aug. 15, at the funeral home.

Grosenbacher was born Jan. 8, 1925, in the Crabapple community of Gillespie County, the son of Ernst Grosenbacher Sr. and Ella Kast Grosenbacher. He married Lucile Spenrath on June 25, 1950, in Comfort. She preceded him in death.

A United States Navy veteran, Grosenbacher served during World War II as a gunner aboard the USS George F. Elliot, USS Tuscaloosa and the USS Mary E. Kinney.

He operated the Sinclair Service Station in Comfort from 1950-1964, and owned an auto parts store for 25 years.

During his active years and retirement, he enjoyed riding horses and roped and attended many rodeos.

Survivors include a daughter, Nadene Alford of Comfort; a sister, Evelyn Lucksinger of Fredericksburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Carolyn Grosenbacher of Center Point, and a sister-in-law, Irene, Mrs. Red Grosenbacher.

In addition to his wife and parents, Grosenbacher was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Brad Alford; two brothers, Ernst (Red) Grosenbacher Jr. and Orval Grosenbacher, and a sister, Opal Thorp.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Comfort Volunteer Fire Department or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Garet Grosenbacher, Gavin Grosenbacher, Dempsy Grosenbacher, Jon Pankratz, Colton Thomas, Dee Dee Faltin and Will Brown.

Honorary pallbearers were ropers that had roped with him throughout the years.
