Mrs. Teofilo Cantu, 85, nee Dr. Beatrice Martinez of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Knopp Assisted Living Center.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home with interment following at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice, St. Mary’s School Endowment Fund or to the charity of choice.

Thomas J. Brunet

Thomas J. Brunet, 77, of Fredericksburg, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013.

Arrangements and cremation were under the direction of Beckmann Funeral Home.

Services will be held at a later date.

Brunet was born Oct. 17, 1935, in Fond du Lac, Wisc., the son of Lawrence G. Brunet and Virginia Sabel Brunet. He married Ann Marie Swantz on Jan. 17, 1959, in Fond du Lac, Wisc., and she survives.

An award-winning filmmaker, Brunet learned his craft in the U.S. Navy as a photographer’s mate.

Upon returning to Fond du Lac, Wisc., he began his career as a staff photographer for Kiekhaefer Mercury.

In 1967, he relocated to Dallas to head the motion picture unit of Braniff International Airways as a one-man production crew, filming and directing a number of films promoting the airline’s worldwide destinations.

He formed his own company in 1973 and continued to create film, television and multimedia productions for the next 20 years.

In 1994, he and his wife retired to Fredericksburg.

In addition to his wife, Brunet is survived by two sons, two daughters and spouses, including Pamela Brunet of Fredericksburg, Mark and Tina Brunet of Dallas, Christy and Bobby Davidson of Plano and Thomas Brunet of Denver, Colo.

He is also survived by two grandchildren; one brother, two sisters and spouses, including Lawrence and Kelly Brunet Jr. of Green Bay, Wisc.; Barbara and Bob King of Fond du Lac, Wisc., and Christine Bowditch of New London, N.H.

Brunet was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Brunet.

Michael Zenner, 63, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 2, from 4-6 p.m., and Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 7-10 a.m.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m., at Schaetter Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside services and interment with military honors will follow Tuesday, at 2 p.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Golden Hub or to the charity of choice.

Vera Scrimsher

VERA SCRIMSHER

Vera Scrimsher, 90, of Fredericksburg and formerly of Hobbs, N.M., died Friday, Aug. 30, 2013.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery with Dave White officiating.

 Arrangements were under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Ms. Scrimsher was born Oct. 30, 1922, in Nowata, Okla., the daughter of Charles Scrimsher and Nancy Pruitt Scrimsher.

For many years, she worked as a cashier at a grocery store.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda Davis of Fredericksburg; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a brother, Denny Scrimsher of Verden, Okla.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Scrimsher was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Fredericksburg or to the charity of choice.

Francis Charles Heep

Francis Charles Heep, 71, of Dallas and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2013.

A funeral mass was celebrated Saturday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Enda McKenna officiating. Mary Ann Murchison was the pianist, and Donna Durst, the vocalist.

Interment followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schaetter Funeral Home where visitation and a vigil service were held Friday evening, Aug. 30.

Heep was born Jan. 22, 1942, in Fredericksburg, the son of Francis Xavier Heep and Gladys Edna Seelig Heep.

Survivors include one daughter, Becky McCaskill, and two sons and spouses, David and Vivian Heep and Jeffrey and Jenae Heep, all of Mississippi, and nine grandchildren.

He is also survived by his mother, Gladys Seelig Heep of Fredericksburg; four sisters, two brothers and spouses, including Gerald Heep of Seguin; Patrick William and Frances Heep of Navasota; Deborah and Ken Perkins of Midland; Theresa Marie Heep of Kennedy; Lisa and Ted Matthews of Cedar Park, and Regina and Lynn Shipley of San Angelo.

Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Sandy, Mrs. Daniel (Danny) Heep, of Fredericksburg.

In addition to his father, Heep was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel (Danny) Heep and Anthony Wayne (Tony) Heep.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s School Endowment Fund or to the charity of choice.

Pallbearers included Sean Heep, Dean Heep, Aaron Heep, Joey Matthews, Eddie Matthews, Jordan Heep and Gerrad Heep.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at 9 a.m., at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Kerrville.

Interment at Garden of Memories will be held beforehand on Friday, Sept. 13.

John J. Lehman

John J. Lehman, 94, of Fredericksburg and formerly of La Grange, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Fredericksburg Funeral Home.

Lehman was born May 10, 1919, in Bradford, Penn., the son of George Joseph Lehman and Theresa Ledden Lehman. He married Margaret Bach on May 5, 1945. She preceded him in death.

During World War II, Lehman was a lieutenant in the United States Navy.

He was a chemical engineer and retired as vice-president of sales with Koch Industries.

He is survived by two daughters, two sons and spouses, including Elizabeth and Al Napier and Jeff and Lori Lehman, all of Fredericksburg; Jim Lehman of Las Cruces, N.M., and Kathi and Kelly Toombs of Prairie Village, Kan.; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Lehman was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Nelson, and a granddaughter, Jenny Lehman.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice.

Pearl Viola Smith Land, 85, of Katy and formerly of Fredericksburg, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, from 4-9 p.m. at Alamo Funeral Home, 624 N. Alamo, San Antonio, Texas 78215.

Interment will be held Friday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Following the interment, a memorial service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 502 E. Nueva in San Antonio.

INA J. BROWN

Ina J. Brown, 83, nee Sanders, of Fredericksburg, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013.

A memorial service was held Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Fredericksburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Witt officiating.

Visitation was held Saturday evening, Nov. 9, at the funeral chapel.

Mrs. Brown was born April 29, 1930, in Raymondville, the daughter of Conda and Winnie Sanders. She married Max Brown who survives.

After studying animal husbandry at Texas A&I University, she moved to the Mississippi Delta of southeast Arkansas.

She worked with quarter horse shows, showing reining and cutting horses.

For many years, she worked at the Eudora Livestock Auction, and in the 1970’s served as the Chicot County Treasurer.

The Browns moved to Montrose, Colo., in the early 1980s, and to Fredericksburg in 2004.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Brown is survived by her son and spouse, Bill D. and Tabby Shuler of Richmond; a step-son and spouse, Ricky and Jo Brown of Hot Springs, Ark.; and a step-daughter and spouse, Vicki and Tommy Boyd of Hot Springs, Ark.

Survivors also include four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister and brother-in-law, Elray and John Secondo of Buena Vista, Ariz.

Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospice.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockport. A rosary service begins at 1:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, 114 North Church Street, Rockport, TX 78382.

Peggy Jean Adams, 80, nee Mize, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, in San Antonio.

No services are planned at the time. The body was cremated.

Mrs. Adams was born May 30, 1933, in Devine, the daughter of Morris Lenton Mize and Myrtice Josephine Sweatt Mize. She married Herbert Adams on Nov. 10, 1950, in San Antonio and he survives.

She was a 1950 graduate of Edison High School in San Antonio.

Mrs. Adams is survived by two sons and one daughter, including Douglas Adams of Rockport; Dr. Linda Adams, San Diego, Calif., and Dr. William Adams, Durham, N.C., and two grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her step-father, Carl Rischner, and a brother, Morris Leon Mize.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Her body will lie in state in the chapel of Schaetter Funeral Home until 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with graveside services following in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Frances Amala Phillips Hunter

Frances Amala Phillips Hunter, 88, nee Phillips, of San Antonio, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 6, at noon at the Carter-Taylor-Williams Funeral Home in San Antonio, with the Rev. Steven R. Owens Sr. officiating.

Interment followed at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday evening, Nov. 5.

Mrs. Hunter was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Fredericksburg, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Phillips Sr.

At a very young age, she would assist her father who was a veterinarian in Fredericksburg.

After graduating from Phyllis Wheatly High School in San Antonio, in 1943, Mrs. Hunter worked full time as a waitress and seamstress while going to school to become an operating room technician.

She went to work at Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital, where she worked for over 20 years. She was an active member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion.

She married Henry A. Hunter. They were married over 30 years at the time he died.

Survivors include her son, Gary Hunter.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Phillips Jr., Leroy Phillips and Johnny Phillips.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 30, at 3 p.m. at the Hilda United Methodist Church.
